Gordon Wilson

Gordon Wilson, Voice

Gordon Wilson was born in Motherwell and studied with Duncan Robertson at RSAMD (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where Gordon subsequently taught). He has performed with Opera 80 (English Touring Opera), the Royal Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Touring Opera, Drottningholm Court Theatre, Scottish Opera, Opera Northern Ireland, Welsh National Opera, Haddo House, and Opera du Rhin, Strasbourg where leading tenor roles have included The Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Jenik (The Bartered Bride), Manrico (Il Trovatore), Blifil (Tom Jones), Calaf (Turandot), Macheath (The Beggars Opera), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Troilus (Troilus and Cressida) and Riccardo (Oberto).

Gordon concert repertoire includes works by Bach (The Passions), Handel (Messiah), Verdi (Requiem), Elgar (Apostles, Dream of Gerontius, The Kingdom), Dvorak (Requiem, Spectre's Bride) Beethoven (Ninth Symphony) and Mendelssohn (Elijah). He has made many radio broadcasts including 'Friday Night is Music Night' for the BBC, and also recorded the role of Manrico for a recording sponsored by Freddie Mercury (Il Trovatore being Freddie's favourite opera!).

Aside from his role at NESMS Gordon is currently a vocal tutor at Aberdeen University.
